A Special Cornwall Birthday Surprise…

Kate and I

Is there a better feeling than surprising a friend?

Kate and I have been best friends since we met on the first day of Uni. We bonded over the fact that we were on the same course, our surnames are remarkably similar (Drew and Drewnicki) and we both had the same family pets – a black cat and a Siamese cat (weird coincidence, I know).

After meeting during our course induction, we bumped into each other the same evening at the Students’ Union. I felt a tap on the shoulder and turned round to see Miss Drew grinning at me and saying: “remember me?”  That evening, the people that each of us were out with fancied an early night instead of a big night out, so we decided to put all of our money together,  buy shots, dance the night away and save the rest of our money for pizza on the way home.

We lived together for three years, travelled to India, Greece and did an epic 3 month trip across USA together.

If we could, we’d hang out all the time but the Drew and Drewnicki life chapters had a lot of exciting surprises post-American adventure in 2012. Kate moved in with her lovely boyfriend Rowan in Liskeard and welcomed the most gorgeous little baby boy into the world in March 2013 – Hudson Ball.  He’s incredible and I can’t believe how much he has grown up each time I see him.

Unfortunately, living in London means I can’t just nip round for a cup of tea. It takes around 5 hours to get to Cornwall so it takes some planning in advance.

For Kate’s birthday this year – Rowan and I decided to come up with a master plan. Without Kate knowing, we planned for me to come to Cornwall and give her the ultimate birthday surprise…did we manage to pull it off without her finding out?

Watch the video below and you’ll find out…
